Chopard and Mille Miglia: When a Race Becomes a Continuing Watch Collection

A partnership dating to 1988 and a 2026 Racing Edition: continuity matters more than a one-off racing logo.

Some watch-and-car stories begin with a single launch. Chopard's relationship with the Mille Miglia asks to be read as a sequence. Its interest lies in how an event can supply a watch collection with a recurring setting, a community and a reason to return.

The relationship before the product

The event organiser identifies Chopard as World Sponsor and Official Timekeeper since 1988, with an official watch created each year. Chopard connects the partnership to Karl-Friedrich Scheufele's passion for classic cars and describes today's Italian event as a regularity race.

That last description matters. Regularity is not simply a contest to reach the highest possible speed. It directs attention to precision against a prescribed schedule. The conceptual connection to a timepiece is therefore more specific than a generic celebration of horsepower.

The 2026 chapter

The Italian 1000 Miglia took place on 9–13 June 2026. Chopard's current catalogue identifies the Mille Miglia GTS Power Control Grigio-Blu – 2026 Racing Edition, reference 168566-3022, as a 43 mm automatic model in Lucent Steel. A racing association does not mean every official watch has to be a chronograph.

Our reading is that the Power Control format creates a different conversation: the state of a mechanical system, its readiness and the information its owner can see. The connection can be conceptually convincing without pretending the watch is the competition's entire timing infrastructure.

Continuity gives the collector a question

A repeated event edition can be read across years. What remained recognizable? What changed in the display, material or proportions? Did the new reference add a meaningful interpretation, or mainly another colour? Those questions turn a launch announcement into a more useful comparison.

The race also supplies context for photographs and stories about ownership. But an official partnership is not proof that a particular owner competed, or that a watch being sold was issued to a participant. Such claims need documentation for the individual piece.

An important regional distinction

The Italian Mille Miglia and the 1000 Miglia Experience UAE are separate event editions. The documented Chopard relationship with the Italian event must not be copied automatically onto the UAE event as a claim of local sponsorship or a UAE-only watch. The UAE edition deserves its own partner and product verification.

That distinction is central to Malichus's coverage: follow the shared culture across regions, while identifying the exact event, year, role and reference in every story. The result is a connected archive rather than a collection of interchangeable racing headlines.
